THE TEAM:

Bridge Academy of Southwest Michigan (BASWM) is a 9th -12th public school academy, offering a no-nonsense approach to graduation attainment, wrap around services and meaningful career exploration opportunities. BASWM welcomes every student into a place where meaningful learning begins with understanding the student. At Bridge Academy, staff are focused on meeting each individual where they are. Our mission is to manage barriers to success and help our students become the best version of themselves through education and employment. WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:

  • Support students and promote their success in school with barrier management, supportive services, and career exploration.
  • Maintain weekly check-ins with caseload of students, invest in their journey towards graduation and encourage their engagement in school requirements.
  • Encourage positive student behavior while at school, coach students when additional reinforcement or redirection is needed.
  • Maintain accurate, descriptive, and timely data tracking of student data into appropriate database(s).
  • Provide mentoring and wrap-around services. Refer to public or private agencies in the community as needed to overcome barriers to success.
  • Provide students with information on high demand career pathways and opportunities to explore career options and develop interest (hiring events, job fairs, talent tours, and statewide and local special events and activities).
  • Work with Michigan Works! team and business partners to develop outside opportunities such as work-based learning and/or job shadowing.
  • Outreach to businesses for purposes of engagement in projects and work-based learning opportunities, including business tours, job shadows, service-learning projects, internships, apprenticeships, etc.
  • Collaborate with BASWM Student Success Team to Outreach to postsecondary institutions to provide guidance and resources and set up college tours and guest speakers based on in-demand career pathways.
  • Assists young adults in finding and maintaining quality employment and/or post-secondary educational programs.
  • Works closely with JMG graduates, employers, and postsecondary providers for 12 months after program completion to ensure positive outcomes in employment and/or postsecondary education/training.
  • Encourage students to engage in school activities and requirements, including count periods, testing, and developing communication strategies with students and their families on a regular basis.
  • Provide personal and confidential information for screening in accordance with local organizational policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or 2 years' experience in education, social service, counseling, business, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a chauffer's license for student transportation.
  • Experience working with youth accompanied by knowledge of positive youth development strategies and strong classroom management abilities.
  • Skills in human relations, leadership, supervision, and motivational techniques.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to establish the appropriate boundaries while developing and nurturing supportive relationships with students.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic computer applications such as word processing and ability to enter and understand data.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed initiatives, community resilience model and other relevant coping resources that support student success
  • Compassion regarding issues facing young people who have not completed high school and a deep respect for the ideas and intelligence of young adults.
  • Experience with at-risk student population
  • Criminal records clearance.
  • Unprofessional conduct clearance.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
